Lardirago Castle, Ghislieri boarding School - Limited competition, Pavia 1989

The entrance to the monumental complex occurs through the main gate which is reached from a ample parking area planted with trees. Once beyond the entrance the visitor perceives the complete extension of the embankment from which the mass of the Fortress rises. The entire surface of the embankment will kept as a walkable lawn, so that the visitor will have a 360° view of the surrounding landscape and sense being at a higher elevation than the village and countryside. This is a fundamental perception in order to give back to the complex the identification of its boundaries and the characteristic dimension of fortified architecture, today fragmented by randomly placed walls and trees.
